AFCON 2025: Who to accompany Nigeria in Group C?

The stadium in Fès and the Moulay Abdellah complex in Rabat will this evening be the theatres of the outcome of Group C of the 2025 AFCON rich in twists. If the hierarchy seems established at the top, the battle for survival is in full swing in the lower ranks.

Uganda – Nigeria: Super Eagles in squad management, Cranes on mission

In Fès, Nigeria presents themselves with the serenity as group leader. With two victories in two outings, Eric Chelle’s men have already fulfilled their contract. After a show of force against Tunisia (3-2), where they led by two goals before shaking at the end of the game, the Super Eagles should take advantage of this 3rd day to rotate and preserve some energy while avoiding injuries to officially secure first place.

For Uganda, on the other hand, calculation is non-existent: one must win. Currently last in the group with a small point gleaned against Tanzania, the Cranes have their back to the wall. A must win against the Nigerian ogre would open the door to them in the 8th final either by an unexpected 2nd place or via the draft of the best 3rd. Any other result would put them at the mercy of an early return to Kampala.

Tanzania – Tunisia

In the other fixture in Rabat, Tunisia plays a tricky one with Tanzania. After having seduced during their entry into the competition against Uganda (3-1), the Carthage Eagles fell to Nigeria. With 3 points on the counter, the Tunisians are almost sure to see the last 16, at worst among the best 3ps. It would take a disaster scenario with a defeat for them and in the other game, a win for Uganda on Nigeria. But for a nation of this rank, the goal is elsewhere: to win to secure 2nd place and avoid a premature draw against a big piece in the next round.

In front of them, Tanzania has not said its last word. Despite their initial defeat, the Taifa Stars count 1 point and keep their fate in their hands. The calculations are clear: a victory would propel them directly into 2nd place, sending Tunisia to 3rd place and with a more delicate draw in the last 16.

The suspense is all the more intense as the eyes turn towards Group A. Nigeria being out of reach, everything will depend on the goal difference and the accumulation of points for the last qualifying ticket.
