Football - Amir Abdou: Between hope and prudence in Burkina Faso

A choice deemed relevant

For many Burkinabe supporters, Amir Abdou represents a credible option adapted to the current context. Gaël Clément Ro'Eh describes him as one of the "best options" available, highlighting his ideal profile: an external coach in the "national biotope" but with a solid African experience, both in clubs (FC Nouadhibou, Hassania d'Agadir) and in selections (Comoros, Mauritania). He highlights his ability to perform with teams considered as «average» on the continent, which could allow the Stallions to reach a milestone.

The priority objective, according to him, is to give back an identity of play to the team, based on historical Burkinabe values such as fighting spirit, solidarity and self-transcendence. He also calls for a liberated football, without "handbrake", and insists on the need for the federation to grant the coach a long lease (minimum 4-5 years) and total freedom in the choice of his technical staff.

Clear expectations: results and stability
The supporters largely converge on the essential: concrete results. Daouda Sangaré expresses weariness in the face of repeated 'coach crises' and unfulfilled promises. He wants a coach capable of "moving forward" the team, recalling the glorious past and contrasting it with recent difficulties in winning.

Amos KY summarizes the general mindset:

"We recruit so that the work is well done, and for that, we must put the coach in the conditions to work well." Victor Sanou insists on vigilance: "Avoid parasitic listening, work seriously, and especially sanction disciplinary failures, delays in regrouping, for example." He points to a certain responsibility of the federation in these past malfunctions.

«Immediately aiming to win the AFCON or a global qualification would be going too fast»
Call for patience
Georges Millogo adopts a more measured tone. He advocates for better integration of national championship players, encourages the new Stallion coach to come observe himself on site, and warns against unrealistic expectations: «Immediately aiming to win the AFCON or a world qualification would be going too fast». He calls to move "step by step" to avoid the pitfalls of precipitation.

Adama Brabo completes this picture by insisting on two pillars: stabilizing the group to garner victories, essential for satisfying the Burkinabe people and surrounding oneself with good people.

The reactions of the supporters show a consensus: Amir Abdou is perceived as a serious and promising choice, capable of bringing discipline, ambition and a vision adapted to African football. However, enthusiasm remains tempered by recent disappointments.
