Manchester City: Antoine Semenyo, the man who changes everything

Arrived at Manchester City this winter, Antoine Semenyo broke a long-held myth in the world of football, namely a relatively longer adaptation time to assimilate Pep Guardiola’s gaming ideas. After 10 matches, the Ghanaian has already put everyone in agreement and upset the hierarchy among the cityzens offensive.

Manchester City: Antoine Semenyo, the man who changes everything

Semenyo made his debut with Manchester City on 10 January, just one day after leaving Bournemouth. The Ghanaian was started by Guardiola against Exeter City (10-1) in the third round of the FA Cup. Result, a goal and an assist, thus marking his territory in his new home.

Semenyo does better than Haaland

Since then, the 26-year-old right winger has settled in the eleven of Pep Guardiola, notably in the Premier League where he makes several starts. After being mute in the Manchester derby against United, Semenyo unlocked his league record against Wolverhampton (2-1) before moving on to face Tottenham (2-2).

In total, Antoine Semenyo has 6 goals and 2 assists in 11 games with the Sky Blues, an impressive ratio of 0.55 goals per game which is among the best in the same period in the English championship. By comparison, Erling Haaland has scored 6 goals and one assist in 12 matches in the same period, while he also plays in the Champions League, unlike the Ghanaian who will only be qualified from the eighth finals (City vs Real Madrid).

Versatility to its advantage

If Antoine Semenyo is having fun in such a short time with Manchester City, it’s because Pep Guardiola has tactically reinvented himself to integrate him into his team. The Catalan technician switched to 4-1-4-1 to install his new star in right wing, his favorite position. But not only that.

Antoine Semenyo has already played in three different positions since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium. And he scored on all levels, right, left and as a center forward. On the left, the former Bournemouth scored 3 goals and 2 assists including one against Tottenham.

The Black Star played a match as a forward. It was against Leeds United in a 4-1-3-2 with Omar Marmoush and the Ghanaian offered the victory (1-0) to Manchester City. He jostled everything in the Cityzens and continues to impact the game under Pep Guardiola.

3 months before the World Cup, this is the offensive asset n°1 available to Otto Addo. However, Antoine Semenyo must now seek to be efficient in selection, where he often seemed lonely.
