The Libya Football Federation (LFF) is planning to have the national team engage in two international friendly matches during the FIFA window next month.
Abdunnaser Ahmed, the LFF General Secretary told Sport News Africa that they are planning to have two games which will help the national team prepare well ahead of the preliminary match of the FIFA Arab Cup on June 19th.
“We had hoped that the two matches in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers next monthy would help our team prepare well. But after the games were pushed ahead, we have decided our team gets two international build-up games before facing Sudan in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup in Doha.
“We are trying to engage the Football Federation of Liberia so that we can play their national team or some other team. It will be important to have these friendly games to help our team prepare well,” added Ahmed.
He also made it clear that they are determined to go past the preliminary round in the FIFA Arab Cup so that they can get the chance to play in the group stage. Incase Libya eject Sudan in the preliminary stage of the FIFA Arab Cup, they will join Group D that has African reigning champions Algeria, Egypt and the winner between Lebanon and Djibouti.
Libya who have had several years of insecurity had international football return to their country on March 25th, 2021 when Libya hosted Tunisia in a Group match of the AFCON qualifier at the Martyrs Benina Stadium in Benghazi. Although the visiting Tunisian team won 5-2, it was a historical match which marked the return of international football in Libya after seven years.
