The head coach of Ethiopia’s U-20 Women’s team Firew Hailegebral has made it clear that his team is ready to advance to the next round of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Ethiopia will host Botswana tomorrow December 17th in the return leg of the third round of the qualifiers in Addis Ababa. Coach Hailegebral’s team won the first leg 3-1.
“We are not taking our opponents for granted because we beat them in the first leg. We have instead doubled our efforts and the team is confident to qualify for the next round,” Hailegebral told Sport News Africa during a brief interview ahead of training at the CAF technical Centre in Addis Ababa.
The Ethiopian team will look to Aryat Odong, Rediet Asresahgn and Mesay Temsgen who all scored in the first leg encounter two weeks ago.
Ethiopia are also the reigning regional CECAFA Women’s U-20 Champions after winning all their matches at the tournament that ended in Uganda early last November.
On Friday Uganda will also play away to South Africa after registering a slim 1-0 win in the first leg.
The other two teams from the CECAFA zone Burundi and Tanzania will face-off in another second leg encounter on Saturday to determine which team progresses to the next round. Tanzania picked a 3-2 win in the first leg played in Dar es Salaam.
