The Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) has announced that the national team will play two international matches against Uganda Cranes in the city of Adama.
Tilahun Bahiru, the Federation General Secretary told Sports News Africa that the matches will be played at the ASTU Stadium on August 18th and 20th.
“These matches will help our team prepare well ahead of the next round of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier matches,” added Bahiru.
Ethiopia defeated South Sudan by a 5-0 aggregate in the first round of the CHAN 2022 qualifiers and will now face Rwanda in the final phase of the qualifiers.
Wubetu Abate, the Ethiopian national coach, welcomed the idea of having two international friendly matches ahead of the matches against Rwanda.
“Playing two matches against Uganda will give us good tests so that we can prepare better for the matches against Rwanda,” said Abate who also led Ethiopia at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations AFCON) held in Cameroon early this year.
Tanzania and Djibouti are the other teams from the CECAFA region that qualified for the final phase of the CHAN qualifiers after seeing off Somalia and Burundi respectively.
The Taifa Stars of Tanzania will face Uganda, while Djibouti face Sudan in the final round of the qualifiers.
