Bayelsa Queens have won the 2022 WAFU-B Zone Women's Champions League title at the tournament that came to end on Saturday in Cote d'Ivoire.
Having thrashed Espoir of Benin Republic to reach the final, Bayelsa went on to subdue the Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa ladies 3-0 to claim the zonal crown at the Stade du Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire.
First half strikes from Miracle Joseph, Flourish Sabastine and Chinyere Igbomalu were all Bayelsa Queens needed to silence their counterparts from Ghana to clinch the coveted sole ticket from the West African B zone.
The breakthrough came when Sabastine was brought down in the Ghanaian area by Anesthesia Achaa and Joseph converted the resulting kick in the 11th minute to put the Nigerians in front. Eight minutes later, Sabastine got herself on the scoresheet with the second goal with a brilliant volley.
In the closing stages of the first half, Chinyere Igbomalu got the third goal through a header of a fine long throw from Glory Ed and to dash comeback hopes for Ampem Darkoa.
The triumph also saw Restoration Girls claim dominance over their Ghanaian counterparts, having earlier played out a 0-0 draw in the group stages and also ensured Nigeria wrestled the regional crown from Ghana following Ghana's Hasaacas Ladies victory in the last edition over Nigeria's Rivers Angels.
Besides the title win, Bayelsa automatically emerged as the sole representative of the WAFU-B zone at the 2022 CAF Women's Champions League tournament in Morocco in October later this year.
