World Cup 2022: Cameroon says 'Thank You' to FIFA & Qatar

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon left their locker room at the Al Lusail stadium spotless, with a thumbs up symbol carved out as an art work on a paper and screen in the dressing room.

The accompanying message on the art work reads: ‘thank you,’ immortalized with a group photo by the team.

Cameroon won their last game of group G against Brazil but it wasn’t enough. Results elsewhere meant Switzerland sailed through as runners-up, while Brazil qualified as group leaders.

Vincent Aboubakar’s goal in added on time (90+2) from an assist by Gerome Ngom led Cameroon to victory but Switzerland’s win over Serbia took the Swiss to 6 points, 2 ahead of Cameroon.

Cameroon’s three weeks in Qatar was almost controversy – free as the Indomitable Lions had a good time in Doha, Qatar except that goalkeeper Andre Onana was dismissed for indiscipline according to the Cameroonian FA.

The indomitable Lions, participating for a record extending 8th time in the World Cup finals lodged in probably the finest facilities at the Banyan Tree hotel in Doha.

The Indomitable Lions trained at the ultra modern Al Sailiya Sports Complex in Doha, and played their games at the Al Janoub and Al stadium Lusail stadiums.

The president of Cameroon’s Football Federation Samuel Eto’o has had a good working relationship with the Qataris as he serves as an Ambassador of the competition. Eto’o has also led some local club presidents from Cameroon have possibilities of signing partnership deals with potential investors in Qatar, something which is yet to be officialized as per reports. If done, this could mean a whole lot of good for local football in Cameroon.
