The continent's teams have been taking part in international tournaments to better prepare for this completion. Egypt, the defending African champion, was at the tournament in France, which included four selections. For their last game, on Saturday, January 7 in Orleans, the semi-finalists of the 2020 Olympics fell narrowly to the French, the defending Olympic champions (33-32). The Egyptians had nevertheless dominated the Czech Republic (33-30) in this tournament.
Egypt is housed in Group G with Croatia, the United States and Morocco, which also did not succeed in its preparation. Currently in training in Poland, host of the World Handball, the Atlas Lions have lost the three friendly matches on their agenda. They were defeated in turn by Belgium (32-26), Iran (28-29) and Poland (23-30).
The exception Cape Verde and Tunisia
Vice-champion of Africa, Cape Verde is a little better off. The Blue Sharks were in Switzerland for the Yellow Cup. They were impressive. After a defeat against Austria (31-39), the men of Ljubomir Obradovic held their own against the Swiss (29-29). They are now facing Japan. At the World Handball Championship, Cape Verde, in group C, will face Uruguay, Sweden and Brazil.
Tunisia and Algeria have played each other twice in friendlies. The Eagles of Carthage won each time (29-23 and 32-30). Tunisia had also won the Four Nations tournament dominating Poland (32-31), Brazil (29-24) and South Korea (35-32).
The Tunisians will play in pool H with Belgium, Bahrain and Denmark. Algeria for its part will face, in group E, with Qatar, Germany and Serbia.
