Patson Daka scored twice against Zimbabwe (2-0) on Monday in the closing match of the sixth day of Group H of the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Unfortunately, his country Zambia will not be in Cameroon.
Patson Daka has not given up. While Zambia is out of the tournament since their 3-3 draw with Algeria last Thursday, the Salzburg striker is still striking. He helped his country save their honor in the qualifiers by beating the Warriors of Zimbabwe (2-0), preventing the Chipolopolo from finishing bottom of group H. Daka scored two goals in Harare where Zimbabwe had not lost an official match since June 2013. That was a 2-4 defeat to Egypt, where Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick.
Little consolation for Daka
With this brace, Patson Daka takes the lead in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. It is, however, a small consolation for the serial striker, who is being courted by Liverpool. He was the African U20 champion in 2017 and the best player of the tournament, but is yet to taste the senior tournament. Zambia has not qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations since 2015.
This Tuesday, the last matches of the qualifications will be played. Several other players have the opportunity to join the Zambian striker or by pass him.
5 goals: Patson Daka (Zambia)
4 goals: Louis Mafouta (CAR), Saidi Ntibazonkiza (Burundi), Baghdad Bounedjah (Algeria), Victor Osimhen (Nigeria), Percy Tau (South Africa)
