Uganda Cranes defender Joseph Ochaya has said they need nothing but a win away to Malawi in a Group B match of the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
“We need a win and not even a draw. We have worked hard to go and get a win in Malawi,” said the left sided defender who features for DR Congo’s TP Mazembe.
Uganda Cranes who are placed second in Group B can afford a draw or a defeat with less than 3 goals to qualify for their third straight AFCON competition.
The Uganda Cranes team traveled on Sunday morning on a chartered Uganda Airlines flight ahead of their match with Malawi in Blantyre on Monday.
Coach Abdallah Mubiru also warned that his team is determined to pick a win away from home. “We know we only need a draw to qualify for the AFCON. But we are going all out to win,” said Mubiru.
“We need to keep focused and take our chances because playing Malawi in their home ground will not be easy,” added Mubiru.
Uganda has qualified for the last two AFCON tournaments in 2017 (Gabon) and 2019 in Egypt when they finished in the last Group of 16 losing to eventual runners-up Senegal.
