The 5th and 6th playing days of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations - qualifiers will get underway from March 24 to 30. At the moment, only 5 out of 24 possible countries have already qualified for the final phase of the competition.
With less than 2 playing days to go until the end of the qualifiers, only Cameroon (host country), Senegal (12 points), Algeria (10 points), Mali (10 points) and Tunisia (10 points) have already won their tickets to the competition scheduled from January 15 to February 28, 2022. Of the remaining 19 places, some are expected to be filled at the end of the next playing day.
Thus, Morocco only needs a draw against Mauritania to get an invite to this prestigious tourney.
More is needed for Guinea, Burkina Faso, Ghana, South Africa, Egypt, Comoros and Nigeria, who need a victory to secure their respective places for good.
On the other hand, a win would put Uganda, Sudan, Gambia, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Ethiopia and Benin in glorious positions. It would allow the aforementioned teams the chance to sail through on the final day.
Behind them; Malawi, South Sudan, Mauritania, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Rwanda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, Guinea Bissau, Tanzania, Libya, Niger, Sierra Leone and Lesotho mathematically still have chances for qualification, though very bleak.
Namibia has 6 points, after its victory against Chad (disqualified from the competition on Monday 22 March), is now waiting for the final day to completely make sure of her participation in the AFCON 2022.
Sao Tomé and Principe, Angola, Togo, Eswatini and of course Chad, are already out of the race of the AFCON 2022.
