The Desert Fennecs of Algeria have lined-up three international friendly matches to be played in June, 2021.
After the postponement of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar for Africa that was slated to take place next month, the Fédération Algérienne de football (FAF) has announced that the national team will instead play three build-up matches.
Mauritania booked a place in the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) a few weeks ago and will face the Desert Fennecs at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida, Algeria on June 3rd. Three days later Algeria will host Mali at the same Stadium.
The Desert Fennecs who are the reigning African champions will then travel to face Tunisia at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Radès.
2019 AFCON winning coach Djamel Belmadi is expected to continue handling the team. The former Manchester City midfielder has previously coached the Qatar national team before he took over from Rabah Madjer as head coach of the Desert Fennecs in 2018.
For the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers that will now be played starting in September during the FIFA window Algeria are grouped in Pool A alongside Burkina Faso, Niger and Djibouti.
