AFCON 2025: Change of Cameroon - Morocco referee at the request of Morocco

The case is likely to cause some buzz and already inflames the backstage of CAF since the Moroccan Football Federation has won its case following a complaint regarding the designation of the central referee for his quarter-final against Cameroon, on Thursday in Rabat (19h GMT).

Citing a late decision, Morocco actually complained about the choice of the Egyptian Amin Omar to officiate during this game. Finally,  CAF appointed another arbitrator, the Mauritanian Dahane Beida, and this without having alerted an ulcerated Cameroonian Federation by learning the news through social networks.

Curiously, the CAF also appointed for the fifth time in a row for a match of Morocco at this AFCON 2025, the same VAR assessor, the Congolese René Daniel Louzaya.

If an Algerian arbitrator was also expected at the VAR, it would be nothing; the choice was deemed inappropriate by Morocco given the tensions between the two countries.

These last-minute changes strongly angered the decision-makers of FECAFOOT, mainly its president, Samuel Eto'o, who was also joined in his recriminations by his counterpart from Nigeria, Ibrahim Musa Gusau. The next few hours are likely to be very tense before the long-awaited shifts...
