AFCON 2025 - Senegal: Controversy surrounds final list

While Senegalese must exercise patience concerning the final AFCON list, internal negotiations are taking place. According to information from Sport News Africa, a dispute remains between Pape Thiaw and his collaborators at the Senegalese Football Federation. The technician wants to take a group of 27 players to Morocco, where the FSF would like a maximum of 24 players.

A desire of a smaller group at the federal level because CAF plans to financially support only 23 players. Additional players must be supported by the federation. For this edition of the competition, CAF authorizes selections to have up to 28 players instead of 27 as the case was during the AFCON in Côte d'Ivoire.

Expected to unveil his list of players selected for the AFCON on December 4th, Pape Thiaw finally went to the United States to take part in the draw for the 2026 World Cup groups. Since then, no new date has been officially communicated for the announcement of the Lions' list.
