Football - Ghana: Carlos Queiroz takes the lead of the Black Stars

Ghana has officially appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars. The 73-year-old Portuguese technician was chosen by the executive committee of the Ghana Football Federation to lead the national team until the 2026 World Cup, scheduled in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Former coach of Real Madrid, long-time assistant at Manchester United, and former manager of Portugal, Iran, Egypt or Qatar, Queiroz arrives with a solid reputation on the international stage. A specialist in internationalist campaigns, he notably led South Africa to the 2002 World Cup, took Portugal to the last 16 in 2010 and then led Iran in 2014 and 2018.

His mission begins immediately with the preparation of Ghana for the 2026 World Cup. The Black Stars will begin their tournament on June 17 in Toronto against Panama, before challenging England and Croatia in a particularly high group.
