Nigeria: Willian Troost-Ekong retires internationally two weeks from the AFCON 2025

It’s a big surprise. Willian Troost-Ekong, captain of the Nigeria Super Eagles and MVP of the 2023 AFCON, will not compete in the 2025 edition in Morocco. The 32-year-old central defender indeed announced his international retirement this Thursday on social networks through a video summarizing his time with the national team (83 caps, 8 goals).

“Grateful. Forever a Super Eagle. Playing for Nigeria has been the greatest privilege of my life. The journey can end here, but my support will never do it," 

wrote Troost-Ekong who is therefore hanging up after 10 years spent in selection (2015-2025).
