The 2026 Women’s AFCON confirmed in Morocco

The 2026 Women’s AFCON confirmed in Morocco

Despite the rumors of postponement or relocation, the president of the CAF, Patrice Motsepe, took advantage of his press conference in Dar Es Salam this Friday, February 13 to dispel doubts around the organization of the 2026 Women’s AFCON. This one will indeed be held in Morocco, on the initially scheduled dates, namely from March 17 to April 3, 2026. A non-negotiable timing for the South African leader, because the issue goes beyond the simple continental framework: this edition is qualifying for the Women’s Wave Cup 2027 in Brazil.

"Morocco came to lend us a hand because several countries wanted to organize the event, but we did not have the time,"

he said, before specifying:

“At the moment, we still have an agreement with Morocco because some countries want to host the competition, but want to change the date. However, we cannot change the date because it is a qualifying competition for the Women’s World Cup.”

For CAF, the objective is now to ensure the holding of a smooth tournament to guarantee the preparation of African nations for the world championship. The president of the CAF concluded with determination: "The women’s AFCON therefore continues. It will be a success and we will ensure that it takes place. It must imperatively take place during the scheduled period.
