AFCON 2023: Ministry takes stock of the state of the infrastructure

Côte d'Ivoire is hosting the 2023 AFCON in January and February 2024, which was originally scheduled for June-July 2023. Despite the months gained with the postponement of the competition, the Ivorian authorities are hastening the completion of the stadiums and other infrastructure (Cities, roads, etc.) under construction for the tournament. They took stock this Wednesday, September 14 in Abidjan.

Of the six stadiums planned, two are almost ready. These are the Yamoussoukro stadium, which is 99% complete, and the Bouaké Peace stadium, which is 98% complete. The stadiums in San Pedro and Korhogo are at 75% and 74% respectively.

The Alassane-Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe is 45% complete. Only one infrastructure is really lagging behind at present. This is the Felix-Houphouet-Boigny stadium, where work is only at 49%.

"We will meet the deadlines for the delivery of all the infrastructure of this AFCON," reassured Juliette Abe, lecturer and head of the Infrastructure Department of the National Sports Office (ONS).

The training grounds and the AFCON cities are at the level of the last coatings. As of September 26, the Bouaké stadium will be provisionally received.
