CHAN 2022 - Group A: Algeria vs Mozambique to decide group

The host country of the CHAN 2022, Algeria, faces Mozambique for the third and last day in group A. First and already qualified, the Fennecs A' (6 pts) must avoid a defeat against the Mambas, second with 4 points, if they want to finish on top of the group.

Algeria has already validated its ticket to the quarterfinals of "its" CHAN. Driven by their fans, Madjid Bougherra's men have done the job by winning their first two games in Group A. However, the Fennecs A' intend to play their third game against Mozambique on Saturday, January 21 at 19 hours (GMT).

"Certainly, we are qualified, but we take each game as a final, the objective is clear: continue to win and finish first in this group. The players have recovered well and are ready to help the team. We will see if there will be changes or not. I'm lucky to have an extended team ready to start any match," explained Madjid Bougherra in a press conference.

For this third and final day of the group, the hosts will face an opponent tougher than Libya (1-0) and Ethiopia (1-0). It is Mozambique, second in the ranking with 4 points.

If a draw is enough for the Mambas to seal their ticket to the quarters, they would not hesitate to make life difficult for the Algerians. And why not take the three points in this game to finish first in the group.

"Mozambique is a very disciplined team tactically, most of the players play in the senior team. We are very focused on their strengths. Against Libya they proved that they have resources. We have to stay focused for 90 minutes, they can make you impatient, they are a playful team, they know how to play ball. We are ready to face any scenario," warned the coach of Algeria.

Captain and leader of the group of Madjid Bougherra, Ayoub Abdellaoui, injured an ankle, will not take part in this decisive game for the first place of the group. Abdellaoui is out with an ankle injury," explained Bougherra. He is out. His injury is progressing well, and if all goes well he will be with us next week."
