CHAN 2022 - Group C: Morocco eyeing a triple back to back title

The CHAN 2022 will be played from January 13 to February 4, 2023 in Algeria. Today, focus on Group C with a great uncertainty: will Morocco defend its title? Beyond this question, Sudan, Ghana and Madagascar are ready to shine. This group will start on Sunday, January 15.

Will Morocco participate in the CHAN 2022? The question is still being asked as the competition begins on January 13. In the meantime, the Moroccans are in Group C where they represent the most danger. The reason is simple: the local Atlas Lions have won the last two editions. The last one in Cameroon in 2020, and that of 2018 at home. At these tournaments, Morocco has also won the titles of top scorer and best player with Ayoub El Kaabi in 2018 and Soufiane Rahimi in 2020.

This CHAN 2022 should be the 5th for Morocco. And so far, it has experienced only one elimination in the first round. It was in 2016 in Rwanda. Still in uncertainty about the participation of their players in the CHAN this year, Moroccan fans should probably pray and hope for a positive outcome. Because the feud between Morocco and Algeria, which broke off diplomatic relations in 2021, is still present. This could cost the participation of the two defending champions.

Sudan has only known two participations before this edition of the CHAN 2022, in 2011 (host country) and in 2018. And each time, the Sudanese won the bronze medal. They hope to match this performance and even go further for the 2022 edition. However, Burhan Tia's men will have their work cut out with Morocco, but also Ghana. The Ghanaians are making their return to the competition. They had not participated in the CHAN since 2014. Boosted by their absence from the last three editions, the local Black Stars hope to do as well or better than their final in 2009.

Madagascar will live in Algeria its first CHAN. With their achievement in the COSAFA zone, the troops of Romuald Rakotondrabe are seen as the small thumb of the competition. Nevertheless, beware of the surprise.
