Head coach of Ghana senior national women’s team, the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo has revealed that she misses her experience players after her side suffered 3-0 defeat against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the on going Aisha Buhari Cup played at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria on Friday afternoon.
The South Africans secured their victory through goals from Hilda Magaia of Moron BK in 18th minute, Thembi Kgatlana of Atletico Madrid in the 53rd minute and Sibulele Holweni of the University of the Western Cape in the 71st minute.
Speaking to the media after the game, Mercy Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, head coach of the Black Queens stated.
"I think we've had a good game, even though, we lost the match, it's a preparatory game for Ghana. We have a pending important assignment ahead. So, I brought a lot of new players to test and see how best they can fit into my main team. I really missed a lot of my experienced players, not only just the captain (Elizabeth Addo). When I have the full complements of my team, you will see a different ball game. I'm not embarrassed at all by the result. This is a preparatory match and I have a major agenda for the major task ahead."
Goalkeeper of the Black Queens, Dumehasi Fafali also added that, the defeat was indeed a painful one.
"This is a game, and in games like this, mistakes do happen. Though it's painful to lose, this is an exercise to prepare for the major assignment ahead of us which is the (TotalEnergies) Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifiers."
Ghana will now take on Cameroon on Monday in an attempt to make amends for the loss.
The 2021 Aisha Buhari Tournament is used to honor the first lady of Nigeria.
