NWFL Premiership: Holders Bayelsa Queens, Naija Ratels, Adamawa and Osun win

Rivers Angels bow to Bayelsa Queens

The Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) Premiership made an exciting return with six matches across various centers in the country on Wednesday 30th November 2022 as defending champions claimed a 2-0 win over former winners Rivers Angels at the Samuel Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

The abridged league had 14 teams drawn into two groups [ A and B] of seven teams and the opening day fixtures witnessed heavy clash of two arch-rivals, with 12 goals scored with six home wins plus one away goal.

The defending champions made a bold statement to their season's campaign, following its title defense with a 2-0 win at home against one if its biggest rivals and seven-time winner, from Port Harcourt.

After enduring a barren first half, the Prosperity Girls picked up from where they left at the CAF Women's Champions League winning the bronze in Morocco, with the opener thanks to Juliet Sunday's 78th minute header off Flourish Sabastine's assist.

Ad if the solitary effort was not enough for the hosts as they left it late to grab the third place bronze to guarantee their opening triumph this season after Mary Aderemi struck in 90th minute to seal the victory for the hosts.

At the Lanleke Stadium Ile-ogbo, Osun Babes recorded a 2-0 home victory with goals from Eberechukwu Oleka who opened the scoring from the spot and Faith Samson in either half.

Elsewhere, FC Robo Queens paid their rent in Abia as Nkechi Agams' solitary effort was all unlock Queens' defense for Angels to triumph at the Enyimba International Stadium.

Nasarawa Amazons secured a 1-0 triumph against Edo Queens thanks to Ayatsea Hembafan's 44th-minute goal but not enough to sit at the top of the group B log.

Nigerian league newcomers Heartland Queens and Ibom Angels received welcomed package of goals from Naija Ratels and Adamawa Queens respectively as Heartland got a heartbreak they remain the only side with away goal.
