Qatar 2022: Addo quits Black Stars job

Otto Addo threw in the towel, as expected after Ghana’s defeat and elimination on Friday.

The elimination of Ghana from the group stage of the 2022 World Cup cut short Otto Addo’s stay at the head of the team. As expected, the technician gave up his position as coach.

“It was clear that I would retire after the World Cup. My family and I see our future in Germany. I like my role at Dortmund. Even if we had won the World Cup, that would have been the end. It’s a family decision,” said the technician after the 0-2 loss to Uruguay.

Still under contract with Borrussia Dortmund, the 47-year-old is returning to his task at the level of the BVB Academy. At the start of the year, it was with the approval of Dortmund that he took over as interim coach of Ghana.

Despite the success and qualification for Qatar 2022, the man was clear about his future after the World Cup.

But, lately, there were rumors of an upcoming extension. Now it’s clear, the Black Stars will have to look for a new coach.

Many supporters on social media have thrown their weight on the Ghanaian coach despite his group stage exit and they think Addo can be more productive with the Black Stars if given more time at the helm of the team.
