Tanzania Premier League: Simba SC beat Dodoma Jiji to go top

Simba Sports Club stopped Dodoma Jiji FC 3-0 to go top of the 2022/2023 Tanzania Premier League table on Sunday.

The former Tanzanian champions who are preparing to face CD Primeiro de Agosto of Angola in the second round preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League took a 2-0 first half lead at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Simba SC benefitted from an early 5th minute own goal by Abdallah Shaibu before Zambian striker Moses Phiri made it 2-0 after 44 minutes. Habib Kyombo netted the third goal for Simba SC with five minutes to full time.

The win takes Simba SC top of the log with 13 points from four wins recorded from five matches.

In the second match played on Sunday, Mtibwa Sugar FC settled for a 2-2 draw against visiting Mbeya City FC in a match played at the Manungu Complex.

Nickson Kibabage and Jean Pipi Matore netted for Mtibwa Sugar FC, while an own goal by Farouk Shikhalo and Tariq Seif were enough to ensure Mbeya City FC picked a point away from home.

Mtibwa Sugar FC moved to sixth place with 8 points, while Mbeya City FC improved by one place to 10th place with 5 points.

On Saturday Tanzania Prisons FC shocked Azam FC 1-0 in a match played at the Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya. Jeremia Juma scored the lone goal to hand Azam FC their first defeat of the season after five matches.

Namungo FC also moved to second place with 11 points after a goalless draw against KMC FC.

Action returned on Monday with reigning champions Young Africans Sc playing away to Ruvu Shooting FC, while Coastal Union FC host Kagera Sugar FC, and Szam FC return to action against Singida Big Stars FC.
