Another story of racism in La Liga

Another story of racism in Spanish La Liga. The match between Cadiz and Valencia on Sunday was interrupted following an altercation between Mouctar Diakhaby and Cadiz player Juan Cala. The Valencia defender accused his opponent of racist insults.

Valencia is gliding down the standings, 12th place in La Liga they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at Cadiz FC on Sunday night. It's not just the result, but also the reaction of the Valencians after a clash between their defender and the Cadiz defender, Juan Cala. It was a dispute based on racism that overshadowed the night's results and is very likely to make headlines in Spain for the wrong reasons.

The two protagonists got into a heated argument on the half-hour mark. The Spanish defender is said to have made some derogatory remarks about the former Lyon player. The Senegalese-born player then complained to the referee. But the visitors did not want to stop there given the seriousness of the accusations against the Spanish defender. In support of their teammate, Javi Garcia's players decided to leave the pitch.

"We are all with you, Mouctar",

In the aftermath, the club explained that the French U-21 international was the victim of racist remarks. "The player, who received a racist insult, asked his teammates to return to the field to continue the game which was interrupted for several minutes. We're all with you, Mouctar," the club said on its Twitter account. The match was therefore able to resume after about 20 minutes. But without the Andalusian central defender.

The two teams were tied at that moment (1-1), Kevin Gameiro having equalized in the 19th minute. But Valencia fell behind in the dying moments of the match when Gutiérrez scored (88th). It was a frustrating moment for Mouctar Diakhaby and his team-mates. La Liga will surely open an investigation to shed light on this matter. And if the facts are proven, Juan Cala risks a heavy sanction.
