AFCON 2021: '' Playing against Cameroon is a bonus for us'' - Comoros Captain

"We know we are going to play against a great team, but all this is a bonus for us," Comoros skipper Nadjim Absou told reporters.

He was speaking ahead of their historic game against host Cameroon in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Cameroon.

Debutants Comoros made their mark in their first ever AFCON finals when they defeated four times champions Ghana 3-2 on their last day of play in their group.

To skipper Nadjim and his teammates, they are "living a dream" in the AFCON.

Hear him: "We are living a dream. The hardest part is yet to come and for us, everything we are going through is a bonus. Against Cameroon, we are going to play our usual game. We are calmly preparing for a match against to a great team."

On his part, Comoros Goalkeepers Coach Daniel Padovani is optimistic that his side will play with same values despite some of their players are staff missing after testing positive for COVID-19.

"We played our all-out during the group stage and that's what allowed us to progress to the round of 16. We are experiencing an exceptional situation with several players and staff members affected by COVID-19. We must manage this situation and find the necessary solutions. We will play with the same values, with our usual state of mind".

Comoros will this Monday, January 24 face host Cameroon at 8 PM local time at the Olembe Stadium in the nation's capital.

Cameroon are unbeaten after the group stage and are on fine form as they chase their sixth AFCON title.
