AWCON 2022: The ''usuals'' and the ''new comers''

The twelve teams that have qualified for the Women's World Cup Morocco 2022 are known. Nigeria will play its twelfth AWCON while four countries will discover the competition.

Nigeria has confirmed its supremacy in African women's football. The nine-time African champions have confirmed their ticket to the Women's AFCON. It will be their 12th participation. The Super Falcons have qualified without trembling. After their victory in Lagos (2-0), they beat Côte d'Ivoire on their own turf (1-0). They thus took their revenge on the Elephants who had beaten them in the race for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The African champions will defend their crown in Morocco.

South Africa will try to win their first star in the Cherifian Kingdom. The Banyana Banyana drew against Algeria (1-1) on Wednesday in Algiers. Enough to pass. They had won the first leg (2-0) in Johannesburg. The rainbow nation is also undefeated during these qualifiers. South Africa will meet in Morocco its neighbor, Zambia, which qualified with great difficulty. The Copper Queens were held to a goalless draw on their home turf and had to fight hard to qualify against Namibia. It is thanks to a draw (1-1), that the Zambians will be able to play their third participation.

Cameroon, on the other hand, easily booked their ticket for this continental event. After their big win at home against Gambia (8-0), the Indomitable Lionesses went to Banjul to win (2-0). The Cameroonians will try to challenge the Nigerian supremacy in Morocco. They also join Uganda who qualified automatically after the withdrawal of Kenya.

Tunisia, Senegal, the great return
After 14 years of absence, Tunisia will return to the Women's AFCON. The Eagles of Carthage have indeed swept the double African champion, Equatorial Guinea. Despite the victory of the Equatorial Guineans on their own turf (3-2), the Tunisians were able to pass thanks to their crushing victory at home (5-0).

Senegal is also making a comeback after a ten-year absence. The Lionesses came out victorious in the West African derby against Mali. The Senegalese won the first leg (1-0). However, they lost by the same score in Bamako. It took a penalty shootout to decide the winner. It is Senegal that finally wins the qualification (3-2 pen).

Burundi, Togo, Burkina Faso, Botswana, a first
Burundi will be playing in the Can for the first time in its history. The Burundians qualified with flying colors against Djibouti. The Swallows severely beat the Djiboutian sude at home (6-1). And they did it again in the return match (5-0).

Togo also qualified for their first ever Women's AFCON. The Togolese won against Gabon (2-1). They had won the first leg at home by the same score (2-1). The Sparrowhawks will thus discover the competition in Morocco. The same goes for Burkina Faso who validated their ticket with the manner. After the big win in Guinea Bissau (6-0), the qualification was a formality. And the Burkinabe even won the return match (1-0). This was enough to join Botswana, who will also play their first participation. Despite their defeat at home against Zimbabwe (2-0), the Zebras qualified thanks to their victory in Harare (3-1).
