CAF Champions League: Big guns make the last four

The quarterfinals of the Champions League that continued this Saturday, April 29. After their large victory in the first leg, Mamelodi Sundowns ensures its qualification without surprise as well as Esperance Tunis and Al Ahly.

Sundows unsurprisingly meets Wydad in semis
After a big win in Algeria against CR Belouizdad (1-4), Mamelodi Sundows won again without surprise in front of its public (2-1). The machine took some time to get going. Good time for the Algerians to take advantage of it to open the score at the 24th minute by Sofiane Bouchar and believe in a perhaps magical afternoon. But "the Brazilians", before the break, took control by Themba Zwane who equalized (45th). Above their opponent, they took the lead through Thapelo Morena who doubled the score (49th). The qualification in pocket, "the Brazilians", among the favorites to the final victory, join the defending champion, Wydad in the semi-finals for a clash that should be boiling.

Esperance at the appointment
Esperance of Tunis will be at the rendezvous of the semi-finals. In reception of JS Kabylie, the "Sang et Or" found the key to triumph over the Algerians while remaining tight. As in the first leg, the Tunisians needed only a short victory (1-0) to move to the next round. It was at the 49th minute that Mohamed Romdhane dashed all hopes of JS Kabylie. Esperance Tunis continues its progress in the competition.

Al Ahly overcomes Raja obstacle
The hostile atmosphere of the Moroccan fans will not make the Egyptian Al Ahly tremble. The finalists of the previous edition have respected their rank by showing a management of events worthy of a favorite to the final victory by achieving a draw against Raja (0-0). After having resisted until the 49th minute, Raja obtained the penalty of hope. But it was without counting on the clumsiness of Yousri Bouzok. Facing Mohamed El Shenawy, he found the crossbar and let pass a chance to dream of a "remontada". Despite several attempts, Raja Casablanca will not be able to break the lock of the most successful club in the history of the Champions League. Again in the semi-finals as last season, Al Ahly will challenge Esperance Tunis for a place in the final.
