The qualifiers for the semi-finals of the women's COSAFA Cup are now known. They are the host country, South Africa, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania.
COSAFA Cup guest, Tanzania is the first team to have validated its ticket to the semi-finals. They finished top of Group B with nine points. The Tanzanians have indeed made a clean sweep in the group matches. They will meet Zambia in the semi-finals. The Zambians finished top of Group C with nine points. The Coopers Queens beat Uganda (1-0), the other guest of the tournament, in the last game of the group. Zambia's captain Grace Chandi scored the only goal of the match (37th).
The other semi-final will pit the top two teams in Pool A against each other. South Africa have taken the lead in the group with seven points. Banyana Banyana beat Mozambique 3-1 on Sunday 4 October. The Malawians finished as the best runners-up in the tournament. They are six points behind the South Africans. The two teams, having shared the same pool, were not supposed to play each other in the semi-finals according to the rules of the competition. But the organising committee decided otherwise. The five-time defending champions, South Africa, had even won against Malawi (2-1). It will also be a remake of the semi-final of the previous edition which saw the victory of Team SA (6-2).
