Zambia are one step closer to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Cup. The Cooper Queens recorded their second victory on Sunday 3 October in the second round of the COSAFA Cup. They beat Nambia (3-0). The Zambians took the lead at the end of the first half thanks to a goal by Margaret Belemu (45+1). Captain Grace Chanda doubled the lead for the Zambian team (66th). Mary Wilomba scored the goal of the K-O at the end of the game (84th). Zambia thus takes the lead of the group C with 6 points.
Uganda takes the second place in this group with 4 points. The Crested Cranes crushed Eswatini (5-0). Hasifah Nassuma scored twice (73rd, 75th). The other goals were scored by Joan Nabirye (15th), Riticia Nabbosa (26th) and Sandra Nabweteme (62nd). Eswatini were consoled by a goal from Celiwe Nkambule (56th). However, they are out of the competition. The first place in group C will be contested between Zambia and Uganda on the third day. The last match in this group will be decisive for both teams. The Cooper Queens need a draw to make the last four, while the Ugandans could be content with a best second place finish if all goes well.
The third round of Pool A matches will be played on Monday 4 October. Hosts South Africa face Mozambique while Angola takes on Malawi at 1:30 GMT.
