Eight teams for CECAFA Women’s Champions League 2022 in Tanzania

The zonal qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League 2022 for the CECAFA region will attract eight teams.

Tanzania will host the event, also the CECAFA Women’s Champions League 2022 from July 28th to August 10th in Arusha.

Auka Gecheo, the Executive Director communicated on Tuesday that eight Member Associations have confirmed that their teams will take part in the tournament in Tanzania.

“We shall not have the defending champions Vihiga Queens FC because Kenya is currently serving a FIFA suspension. We are confident we shall have a more competitive tournament this time since teams are now busy preparing,” added Geceho.

He also made it clear that the tournament will not have teams from Sudan and Somalia. The tournament which will be the second event on the CECAFA calendar this year will be played at the Arusha Abeid Stadium and the Black Rhino Academy, Karatu.

 The eight teams that will take part include; She Corporate FC (Uganda), Simba Queens (Tanzania), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan), Warrior Queens (Zanzibar), Fofila PF (Burundi), AS Kigali Women’s FC (Rwanda), GRFC (Djibouti), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia)   

 The defending champions Vihiga Queens FC will miss out because Kenya is serving a FIFA suspension.  

Morocco will host the TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League 2022. Mamelodi Sundowns women’s team from South Africa won the TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League 2021 hosted in Egypt.
