Football - Cameroon: Le Coq Sportif threatens to sue Eto'o

The French brand has indicated in a letter dated July 11 that if the president of the Cameroon Football Federation stubbornly persists in ending his contract with Cameroon, it will not hesitate to initiate legal proceedings against him.

On July 1, 2022, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) announced the end of its collaboration with Le Coq Sportif. A decision that comes into effect at the end of the African Cup of Nations for women, which ends on July 23 in Morocco. Five days later, the body headed by Samuel Eto'o has officially launched an international call for applications for the recruitment of a new equipment supplier. The problem is that Le Coq Sportif does not intend to withdraw from Cameroon without fighting against the obviously unilateral breach of its contract.

Warning
After having drawn the attention of Samuel Eto'o as to the "necessarily wrongful and abusive nature of such a termination", the French dresser returns to the charge. In a letter sent this Sunday, July 11 to the president of FECAFOOT and a copy of which was sent to the Cameroonian Minister of Sports, Le Coq Sportif is threatening. The French equipment manufacturer informs that if the boss of Cameroonian soccer stubbornly persists in ending its contract with Cameroon, it will not hesitate to sue him before the competent courts.

"We have already mandated our usual Council, to engage all legal procedures allowing us to obtain compensation for the damage suffered, which unfortunately will have significant consequences for the FECAFOOT, "warns Marc-Henri Beausire, president of the firm.

The threats of the dresser are not only aimed at the president of FECAFOOT. Le Coq Sportif also warns all equipment manufacturers who will apply to the call for applications launched by the Cameroonian Federation. "In the event that any third party, including any equipment manufacturer, would violate the rights we own, we will not fail to immediately initiate any appropriate legal proceedings against him," said the boss of the French brand. According to him, Le Coq Sportif has not failed in any of its commitments as a supplier of FECAFOOT for over three years.

If the latter has come to threats, it is because, he explains, all his efforts to find a negotiated outcome, "have unfortunately remained in vain. The proof, he says, for any response, FECAFOOT chose to communicate the desire of its president to end the collaboration with Le Coq Sportif through the press. "This attitude," Marc-Henri Beausire insists, "is absolutely not in line with the spirit of our partnership and naturally causes our brand considerable harm."

For the moment, the Cameroonian Federation did not want to react to the threats of the equipment manufacturer. But it should not be long.

In any case, Le Coq Sportif invites "one last time" Samuel Eto'o to reconsider its position, to allow him to continue serenely "the preparation of orders for replicas already committed" for the FECAFOOT.
