Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea a few days ago for €115 million. In order to successfully reintegrate into the London club where he spent three years (2011-2014), he sought the advice of club legend Didier Drogba.
When Romelu Lukaku made the decision to leave Inter Milan for Chelsea, his head was full of questions. All of them could be summed up in one: where did he have to set foot to successfully (re)integrate into a club he was at from 2011 to 2014. The Belgian striker then turned to Didier Drogba, a legend of the London club.
Lukaku was not wrong to have made that choice. ''I had a lot of questions to ask him and he still knows a lot of people at the club," said the Italian champion with Inter Milan last season in an interview on the Chelsea website. ''He prepared me really well with the last details to be settled. Now I just need to get to know the coach and the players a bit better and be available for the team as soon as possible.''
Didier Drogba has 254 appearances and 104 goals in the Premier League. In the Chelsea shirt. This record made the former Ivory Coast striker the ideal guide for the Red Devil, who was packing his bags for London. The latter did not hesitate.
A derby to start with?
The links between the two men have become solid. They have a complicity that has leaked out in recent days on social networks. ''Our relationship means so much to me," says Romelu Lukaku. ''It's not like we talk once a month, I talk to him almost every day!" The Blues' new number nine added: "We have a focus group and we communicate all the time, and I've been in touch with Didier even more in the last couple of weeks."
Lukaku, who scored 64 goals in two seasons at Inter Milan, is starting a new chapter in his career with Chelsea. He trained for the first time with his new team-mates on Tuesday 17 August. Since his arrival in London, he has been undergoing a mandatory quarantine. He is expected to be available on Sunday 22 August for the London derby against Arsenal in matchday 2 of the Premier League.
