Ethiopia will face Sierra Leone in an International friendly match on Thursday August 26, 2021 at the Bahir Dar International Stadium.
The hosts will use the friendly match to prepare ahead of two matches against Ghana and Zimbabwe in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Wubetu Abate, the Ethiopian coach, told Sports News Africa that playing a friendly match now is very important for his team. “It is these friendly matches that give the technical bench a true picture instead of just training,” added Abate.
The coach who also guided his team to qualification for the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) said he is excited about playing two matches (Sierra Leone and Uganda) before traveling to face Ghana in their opening Group G match.
“We have been training really hard and the players have picked up well. I know playing away to Ghana will not be an easy task, but we have no choice, but to prepare well for every match,” added the Ethiopian coach.
The Sierra Leone team that was ejected by Liberia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers are using the friendly match to prepare their teams ahead of the 2021 AFCON to take place in Cameroon.
Ibrahim Kamara, the head of media and marketing at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) said after playing the friendly match, the team will travel to Kinshasa to take part in a 4-Nations tournament that runs August 29-31st.
