Jean Onana pleads guilty and apologizes after being criticized on social networks

Jean Onana had a bad weekend on social media. After exchanging shirts with Neymar at half-time of the defeat of his team Bordeaux against PSG (3-2), the Cameroonian received a lot of criticism and had to apologize to the Bordeaux fans.

Social networks have become a real court of law. Rightly or wrongly. Sportsmen and women know something about this. Every move they make is now watched, commented on and judged. Jean Onana learned this the hard way last weekend. The Bordeaux midfielder was lynched. The reason? A shirt swap with Neymar at half-time when the Girondins were 2-0 down with two goals from the Brazilian superstar. The fans accused him of running up to the referee's whistle and asking for the Brazilian's shirt with a smile on his face. Happy to be with his team's tormentor.

On the set of Canal+, the Senegalese consultant Habib Bèye regretted this gesture, underlining that it was a lack of respect towards the Bordeaux supporters. In the face of the barrage of criticism, Jean Onana pleaded guilty and apologized. "We all make mistakes and it is thanks to them that we learn from them. On Saturday, I asked Neymar for his shirt before the game for a friend. At half-time and in view of the score, I should have made sure it was done discreetly, in the dressing room to avoid controversy and/or judgement. Unfortunately, this was done in the stadium, in full view of everyone. For this reason, I would like to apologize to all the supporters and to all those I may have directly or indirectly offended by this act,"  the 21-year-old said on his Insagram account.
