NWFL Week 13 Reviews: Naija Ratels stun Confluence Queens as Super Six finalists emerge

The 2021/22 Nigeria Women's Football League Premiership reached the Match-day 13 as Naija Ratels edged Confluence Queens in the tasty six top-flight matches played during the midweek.

17 goals were scored across six centres with some teams racing to keep their top-flight survival alive, when some have guaranteed their NWFL Super Six spots with a Match-day left to play.

Naija Ratels 2-1 Confluence Queens

Naija Ratels came back from a goal down to snatch the third ticket in Group A from the claws of Confluence Queens who ended their campaign in tears at the Old Parade Ground Area 10, Abuja.

2019 founder Ratels continued their fairy tale run in their debut season in the NWFL Premiership after they edged the Lokoja ladies to the Championship playoffs with 18 points from 11 games.

Augustina Unamba shocked Naija Ratels with the curtain raiser for Confluence in the eighth minute but Folorunsho Aminat restored parity for Naija Ratels in the 63rd minute before Motunrayo Ezekiel’s 94th minute stunner clinched the maximum points.

The win saw Ratels go third on the Group A log and guarantee their qualification with a game to spear even if they are beaten in Lafia by Nasarawa Amazons next Wednesday in the last match of the regular season. For Confluence, they will missed the Super Six after finishing fourth with 16 points their 12 matches.

Edo Queens 4-0 Pelican Stars

Edo Queens returned to winning ways in dramatic fashion thrashing Pelican Stars 4-0 with Yetunde Fajobi and Chioma Olise among the goals at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

The Obaseki Ladies, who are already through to Super Six consolidated their grip at the summit of the table with 26 points from 11 games but Pelican Stars are destined for relegation after just four points from 11 matches.

Delta Queens 2-1 Robo Queens

The drama in Group B got resolved on Wednesday with Delta Queens pipping FC Robo Queens to secure their place in the Super 6 despite still with a game to the end of the regular season in Warri against Royal Queens next week.

Chinaza Agoh put Delta Queens in the driver’s seat in the first minute but Super Falcons attacker, Gift Monday got the equaliser for FC Robo two minutes into the second half. Racheal Okotete scored the back breaking winning goal for Delta Queens in the 83rd minute.

Delta who currently are joint second with 20 points from 11 games will finish either second or third depending on how their game with Royal Queens pans out next week and the result between Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens in Port Harcourt next Wednesday.

Bayelsa Queens 5-0 Abia Angels

Bayelsa Queens have emerged as Group B winner after their fourth consecutive victory at home to Abia Angels whom they whitewashed 5-0 with Joy Jerry, Edidiong Etim, Kafayat Bashiru with a brace and Vincent Precious as goals scorers.

The Gloryland Ladies have 24 points from 11 games and they cannot be overtaken again on the table by either Rivers Angels or Delta Queens who both are on 20 points each from 11 matches.

Sunshine 1-0 Royal Queens

Sunshine Queens boosted their faint survival chances with their second win of the season a 1-0 home victory over Royal Queens at the Akure Township stadium.

Ovoma Ovie grabbed the all important goal in the 55th minute of the game. The Betsy Ladies still remain at the bottom of the table with seven points. They face Abia Angels in Umuahia on Wednesday in a winner takes all fixture.

Adamawa Queens 0-1 Nasarawa Amazons

Super Six bound Nasarawa Amazons took on hosts Adamawa Queens in the last match of the the Match-day on Thursday morning at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe. Chinemerem Opara's lone strike ensured Nasarawa Amazons picked maximum points against Adamawa Queens at the Abubakar Pantanmi Stadium, Gombe.

The Fintiri Ladies' had a couple of chances in the game, but failed to capitalize on them and were punished in the 37th minute through a goal from the experienced midfielder.

Nasarawa Amazons will face Naija Ratels in their last game of the regular season, while Adamawa Queens will visit Pelican Stars in Calabar.
