Macleans shines for Gornik Leczna
Super Eagles hopeful Macleans Chinonyerem was the hero for her side Gornik Leczna as they edged Czarni Sosnowiec to a 3-2 win in a Polish Ekstraliga clash at the Jan Ciszewski's Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The former Bobruichanka of Belarus striker continues to press her claim for a call-up to the Nigerian women's national team, after scoring a hat-trick against Sebastian Stemplewski's team.
Chinonyerem inspired the comeback of the visitors as she scored in the 20th minute to cancel a three-minute lead of the hosts through Martyna Wiankowska and got her second of the game just five minutes later.
Two minutes after the restart, Andrea Horvathova leveled matters for the hosts but the former Bayelsa Queens striker responded in the 73rd minute to ensure the visitors take all three points.
With her latest hat-trick, the 22-year-old has been in scintillating form since the start of 2021, has now scored 15 goals across all competitions this term. She also remain at the top of the goalscorers chart with 13 goals in 10 games.
As the Super Falcons look forward to Cote d'Ivoire showdown next year, Chinonyerem is hopeful about earning an international call-up as Super Falcons manager Randy Waldrum is reportedly monitoring her performances in Poland with a view to handing her a maiden call-up in the coming camp this month in Abuja.
Gornik Leczna go top of the Polish women's topflight log with the latest away triumph, with 27 points from 11 matches in the 12-team table thanks to the fine form of their Nigerian striker.
