The Tunisian Ons Jabeur will have to wait before lifting her second trophy on the WTA Tour. She lost in the final of the Chicago tournament on Sunday 3 October to Garbine Muguruza of Spain.
Ons Jabeur did not win her second title on the WTA Tour. The Tunisian lost the final of the WTA 500 Chicago 2 to Spain's Garbine Muguruza on Sunday 3 October. However, Jabeur brilliantly won the first set (6-3). But Muguruza came back to tie in the second set (6-3). The African number one became unrecognizable in the third set. She completely collapses and takes a 6-0. This allows the Spaniard to take the crown. And the disappointment can even be seen on Jabeur's face as she misses out on a second title after the WTA title in Birmingham.
The current world number 16 will however be ranked 14th in the new rankings to be published on Monday 4 October. The 27-year-old is having a great season. She was a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon and won 44 matches. This makes her the player who has won the most matches this season ahead of Aryana Sabalenka (No. 2), who has 43 victories.
The Tunisian hopes to achieve her goal of qualifying for the Masters of Guadalajara, in Mexico, which brings together the eight best players on the circuit in November. Jabeur is currently 9th in the Porsche Race to the WTA. Ons Jabeur also hopes to break into the top 10 before the end of the year. "I see myself as one of the top 10 players. I'm trying to reach that goal," says the best African player.
