UEFA Champions League: Sébastien Haller in the European Hall of Fame

UEFA Champions League: Sébastien Haller in the European Hall of Fame

Sebastien Haller has written his name into the history of the Champions League. With a double against Besiktas, the Ivorian international becomes the first player in the history of the Champions League to score nine goals in his first five games.

Sebastien Haller has scored again in the Champions League. The Ivorian international scored twice in the fifth matchday of the season. The 27-year-old striker overturned Besiktas to give Ajax their fifth straight win in the Champions League this season.

The Dutch side went behind in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot and struggled to equalize. Coach Erik Ten Hag brought on his best player, Sebastien Haller, in the 46th minute. Haller was soon on the scoresheet. He equalized in the 54th minute. It only took seven minutes for the Elephant to score twice (61st).

First player to score 9 goals in his first 5 games
This is his ninth goal in the Champions League this season. Haller joins Robert Lewandowski as the top scorer in the Champions League. Even better, he becomes the first player in the history of the competition to score nine goals in his first five appearances. This is quite a feat for the Ivorian, who scored a quadruple in his first match.

Haller is arguably the spearhead of Ajax Amsterdam this season. The former West Ham United man is scoring at every opportunity and has already scored nine goals in 13 Eredivisie games. And the 'Haller machine' could yet add to his tally.
