UEFA CL: Bayern crush Salzburg as Liverpool eliminate Inter

Bayern Munich were held 1-1 by RB Salzburg in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie, but the Germans showed their true colors last night in the second leg, winning 7-1. The Bavarians stunned the Austrians early on thanks to a Robert Lewandowski hat-trick. Inter, on their part, failed to achieve the feat at Anfield despite winning 1-0.

This time the suspense didn't last very long. In the first leg, RB Salzburg scored early on and had chances to go 2-0 up before being equalized in the last minute of the game by a goal from Kingsley Coman.

Lewandowski's 5th C1 hat-trick
For the second leg of the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, Bayern did not want to waste a lot of energy like three weeks ago. The Germans quickly showed the RB boys that the gap between the two teams was still very big. In just 23 minutes, Robert Lewandowski had already sent the ball into the net three times. The Polish striker is once again on a staggering run this season. With this hat-trick, he has now scored 12 goals and surpassed the Ivorian Sébastien Haller (11 goals). In 34 games in all competitions, Lewi has already scored 42 goals.

The Austrians were stunned by these three goals and were knocked out by a fourth goal from Serge Gnabry (31st). At the break, it was 4-0 and everything was done. Thomas Muller scored two more in the second half (54th, 83rd) and Leroy Sané put one to close the score at 7-1.

Liverpool struggles to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League
Liverpool's hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League were almost dashed when they hosted Inter Milan at Anfield. After losing 2-0 at home, the Inter side needed to do something to get back into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.  The Italians were immediately put under pressure by Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean took a second yellow and had to leave his partners for the last 30 minutes. Inter inflicted their first defeat of the season on the Reds at Anfield (1-0)  goal by Lautaro Martinez. But this prestigious victory is not enough to continue their adventure in the Champions League.
