Very sad news. Willy Ta Bi could not win his match against liver cancer. Atalanta Bergamo announced Tuesday the death of their Ivorian defensive midfielder.
On the eve of its round of 16 away leg Champions League game against Real Madrid, the Italian top flight team announces the death of one of its great prospects, the 21 year old Willy Ta Bi. The defensive midfielder had been fighting for several months against liver cancer. In the end, he did not survive the disease. "We mourn the untimely death of our player and Italian U19 Champion Willi Braciano Ta Bi and share the grief of his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Willy," Atalanta writes on it's twitter account.
Willy Ta Bi was born on December 5, 1999, in Divo, Ivory Coast. He was Ivorian international U17 and U20. Trained at AS Adjamé, Ta Bi went through Moscow FC (Côte d'Ivoire) and ASEC Mimomas before signing for Atalanta in January 2019. However, a few months after his arrival in Bergamo, he was diagnosed with the illness. Willy Ta Bi was able to win the Italian U19 championship but was yet to earn a minute in Serie A.
