Kadidiatou Diani

In London, her work begins before the final pass.

After three seasons with Lyon, Kadidiatou Diani is discovering the WSL with London City. The start of her English campaign highlights a forward who also creates chances without the ball.

Making the defence run before receiving the ball

At Tottenham in early October 2026, Kadidiatou Diani does more than wait for the ball in the box. She presses goalkeeper Lize Kop, forces an error and scores. The French forward nets twice in London City’s 6-1 win. Her work off the ball matters too.

That moment invites us to watch Diani between her goals, in the runs that help her team-mates play. She was 31 when she signed, bringing experience of the biggest occasions. But her contribution also lies in preventing opponents from playing out from the back. Several well-known players have arrived; the connections between them still need time to develop.

A club built independently of a men’s team

The transfer is made official on 15 July 2026. Diani signs for three years and commits to a league she had never played in before. On her arrival, she explains her interest in a club independent of a men's team, with the ambition of winning and reaching the Champions League. These are the project's stated objectives, still to be achieved.

Her French career takes her from Juvisy to PSG in 2017, then to Lyon in 2023. With OL Lyonnes, she wins three domestic titles between 2024 and 2026. She leaves a side accustomed to winning its league to help build something elsewhere.

A year interrupted, then relaunched

The move to another country comes after a frustrating spring. On 11 May 2026, Lyon announced surgery following a lateral knee ligament injury sustained in a Champions League semi-final. This medical announcement from the club anticipated an absence of several weeks. That was her situation then: by autumn, the team sheets confirm she was playing again.

On 21 October, Diani comes on in the 62nd minute against West Ham in the cup, in a match London City win 2-1. Between pressing, creating and managing her minutes, her new role is taking shape. The next step is to sustain that contribution through the months ahead.
