2020 Olympics: Complicated start for Morocco

Morocco did not succeed in its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Sarah Fraincart (rowing) and Oumaima El Bouchti (Taekwondo) lost in the first round on Friday and Saturday.

El Bouchti, a great hope for Moroccan taekwondo, was highly anticipated and put up a very good fight against the South Korean Sim Jae-young. Unfortunately the step was very high against the double world champion (2017 and 2019). El Bouchti still managed to score 10 points against 19 for her opponent.

On her part, Sarah Fraincart finished in last place of her "skiff" series on Friday. The athlete crossed the line almost 40 seconds after Russia's Hanna Prakhatsen, who won in 7:48.74. In the qualifiers events, the Moroccan athlete could not obtain one of the first two qualifying places against Singapore's Joan Poh, Paraguay's Alejandra Alonso, Qatar's Tala Abujbara and Taiwan's Huang Yi-ting.
