2020 Olympics - Football: African female referees make history

It is a fact that will remain engraved in the annals of the Olympic Football Games. The women's trio of central referee Salima Mukansanga (Rwanda), Bernadettar Kwimbira (Malawi) and Mary Njoroge (Kenya) will be in the spotlight this Friday July 30th, 2021.

These three women will officiate the quarter-final between Great Britain and Australia in the women's football tournament.

For the Malawian, Bernadettar Kwimbira (39), this is her third match in this competition. After the matches between Great Britain and Chile (21 July) and the Netherlands and China (27 July).

Bernadettar Kwimbira is one of the symbols of African female refereeing. Along with Ethiopia's Lydia Tafesse Abebe and South Africa's Akhona Makalima.
