Another consecration for the African continent, which is enriched by a new Olympic gold medal. The honour goes to the Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir. She became Olympic champion in the Olympic marathon.
The 27-year-old athlete clocked up a time of 2h27'20. Peres Jepchirchir was ahead of her compatriot Brigid Kosgei and the American Molly Seidel, who came second (silver) and third (bronze) respectively.
Africa won its 29th and 30th Olympic medals in Tokyo and Kenya strengthened its ranking in the medals table on the continent with its two new medals. Kenya now has 8 medals, 3 gold and as many silver.
