2021 Olympics - Boxing: Cameroon's Mengue Ayissi in the last eight

Albert Mengue Ayissi's first outing and first victory at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. The Cameroonian boxer won his ticket to the last 16 in the under 69kg category on Saturday. Largely favored on paper, the native of Yaounde saw off the Eswatinian, Zwasis Dlamini Thabiso. The Indomitable Lion of boxing won by TKO after two rounds.

After beating his Swaziland opponent, the Cameroonian celebrated his victory in an epic way. The African champion had warned that he would not go to Tokyo for a mere visit. Of the 12 athletes who make up the Cameroonian delegation at these games, he is the only one to have promised a medal.

"I have confidence in myself and I will bring back at least one Olympic medal. I have worked hard for this," he said before leaving for the Japanese capital. Albert Mengue Ayissi faces Irishman Walsh Aidan in the last 16. The fight will take place on Tuesday.
