The president of the Tunisian Federation of Sports for the Disabled (FTSH), Habib Samcha, told Sport News Africa that 11 Tunisian athletes are "confined" in Tokyo with four days to go before the start of the Paralympics.
"With the coronavirus, there is a very strict protocol in Tokyo. We have our physio who tested positive during the training camp in Tokyo. We have 11 athletes who are confined. That's why we can't say at the moment how many medals we can have," Samcha told Sport News Africa. Nevertheless, he hopes that these athletes will not be deprived of the Games.
Among the 26 athletes qualified for these Paralympic Games, three have withdrawn for various reasons. The boss of Tunisian handisport provides details.
"We also have 3 athletes who are sure values who will not participate. This is Marwa Brahimi who returned to have her baby. She was pregnant. Yassine Guennichi has personal problems. Finally there is Henia Aydi who had a small accident during the last training session in Bologna. She is recovering. Her state of health does not allow her to participate in these Games in Tokyo", laments the president Habib Samcha.
The Tunisian delegation has been in the Japanese capital since 11 August.
