Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina tested negative for Covid and thought they would be fit for Gabon's second match against Ghana. But the two Panthers did not get the green light from the doctors for this match. The reason? They both suffer from "heart damage", according to a statement from the Gabonese Football Federation.
"According to the medical committee of CAF, the players Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina just out of Covid can not take part in this match. The examinations would present cardiac lesions. CAF did not want to take any risks," the body said. This puts into question their presence for the rest of the competition.
