MATCHS DU JOUR 6
The draw for the 2021 African Cup of Nations was made on Tuesday 17 August in Cameroon, the host country of the competition (9 January to 6 February 2022). Algeria, the reigning African champion, did not have an easy draw. Indeed, it is housed in Group E with Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone. Despite this, the coach of CS Hammam-Lif (Tunisian D1), Sami Gafsi, considers that the Fennecs are above their opponents.
''Algeria can win the African Cup," said Sami Gafsi, who spoke to Sport News Africa on the sidelines of the draw. ''Egypt and Tunisia can also win, but we must recognize that collectively and mentally, Algeria is above the other African teams. With Belmadi, the Algerians have found a remarkable state of mind. They have a great love for the shirt and for their people.''
Algeria extended their unbeaten run to 27 matches with a 2-0 friendly win over Tunisia in Rades last June. It will therefore be eagerly awaited in Cameroon.
The Carthage Eagles are in Group F with Mali, Mauritania and Gambia.
Sami Gafsi (41) achieved quite a feat last season. He helped CA Bizertin stay in the Tunisian top flight. He was then recruited to take the reins of the promoted CS Hammam-Lif.
